How A Restoration Actually Works
Most of the work on a tile roof happens where you can't see it from the driveway. Drag the model around and step through the whole job — broken tile out, ridge caps off, old bed chipped back, fresh mortar, flexible pointing, then the coat.

- 75 mmThe hidden overlap where each tile sits on the one below. That overlap is what keeps water out — not the tile itself.
- Batten gauge
- 330 mmCentre to centre, so every course sits on the same line. Varies with the tile profile.
- Ridge bedding
- 40–60 mmFresh sand and cement under every cap, both sides of the ridge. This is the part that fails first on an old roof.
- Coats
- 1 + 2One coat of primer or sealer, then two coats of membrane. Colour is the last thing that happens, not the job.
